The World, Residences At Sea Completes Extensive Dry-Dock

July 2019

London, England – July 2019: Residents of The World, the largest, privately owned residential yacht on earth, returned recently after having been away for a month during the most extensive dry-dock in the ship’s history to discover several stunning redesigned spaces. The refurbishments took place at the Navantia Shipyard in Cadiz, Spain with over 850 contractors and crew working around the clock to elevate the private mega-yacht’s already supreme standards of quality and design.

“Our residents are keen to continually reinvest in their ship to keep it in top working condition and appearance,” said CEO Pamela Conover. “Several popular public areas were redesigned and enhanced for our residents’ and guests’ comfort and enjoyment and that exceed the ship’s world class standards of luxury and style. We also made functional renovations to several areas that are out of public view that improved operations. Our dedicated crew can now deliver an even higher level of exceptional, personalized service.”

The result of The World’s 2019 dry-dock is an astonishingly beautiful ship that is home to its residents’ unique travel lifestyle. This summer the ship continues its global journey with visits to ports of call across the United Kingdom, Portugal, Faroe Islands, Iceland and Greenland before embarking on a history-making expedition across the Northwest Passage and on to explore the vast regions of Asia.

Areas of the ship that were refurbished include:

The World Spa & Wellness Center

The World has one of the most comprehensive spa and fitness programs at sea, complemented by an expert team that crafts the perfect combination of wellness, fitness, and beauty. Among the largest of the dry-dock projects was an extensive renovation of the Spa, Beauty Salon, Fitness Center and Pilates Studio. The remodeled Spa entrance benefits from new marble art walls handpicked for The World in Italy, while new and enhanced treatments have been introduced including an innovative Vichy bed. The World is the second ship to offer this exclusive and unique massage bed.

Also added to an already extensive menu of services is lipo-laser body contouring, multi-wave LED therapy for anti-aging/pain management; enhanced massage beds with greatly improved features and functionality; Vichy shower for enhanced full body hammam treatments; a Thai Massage Room with integrated ceiling-mounted bars; oxidative stress cell repair therapy; and mechanical traction/elongation and enhanced functionality on a new physiotherapy bed. A new Barber Shop with its own private entrance joins a new larger Aqua Spa pool with state-of-the-art ‘Cleopatra’ infrared heated relaxation beds and separated integrated steam and sauna rooms in the locker room areas.

A new separate entry space has been created for the Fitness Center which has been completely reconfigured to make the space bright and open using as much natural light as possible while maximizing the space for separation of Studio classes, cardio, strength training and Pilates which now has its own dedicated space. The Fitness Center’s equipment has been repositioned to capitalize on the breathtaking views from large floor-to-ceiling windows while The World continuously circumnavigates the globe, and a full support ballet bar and TRAX bar for an extended physical experience are now available. Using the latest LED technology, Human Centric lighting has been installed to support the biological daylight rhythm of the body and a full support ballet bar and sound insulation and acoustics have been improved throughout.

Fredy’s Deli

This popular Deck 5 area has been completely redesigned to maintain the integrity of the space as a marketplace delicatessen and casual street café, as well as to improve the service experience. For residents on-the-go, Fredy’s Deli Barista now features specialty and destination-inspired coffee and to-go items including fresh pastries, salads, sandwiches and wraps with counter service. Fredy’s Deli Café now offers full dining and express service options, where menu items will be served within 15 minutes of the order being placed, and Fredy’s Deli Lounge provides a comfortable seating area to relax in with a coffee. Ensuring a personal touch, Fredy’s Deli Marketplace will stock resident-requested favorites and destination products in one easily accessible space, while the Fredy’s Deli self-service counter area will feature a Culinary Corner during days at sea and expeditions with destination-inspired specialties to further ‘bring the destination alive’. Diners will benefit from improved privacy while also maintaining the original bistro feel residents have come to enjoy.

East Restaurant

East Restaurant on Deck 11 has been revitalized with a totally new stylish décor, furniture and soft furnishings which have been designed to reflect and complement its contemporary Pan-Asian cuisine. New seating arrangements allow for intimate dining and flexible table sizes while an update to the acoustics and lighting creates a comfortable ambiance for dining. Select tables are now fitted with removable turntables for family-style dining. In an homage to the original East, the striking, hand-carved wooden sculpture that was a gift from the Governor of Java, Indonesia that graced the restaurant’s entryway, was preserved and placed in full view at the entrance to East’s outdoor terrace. Updates to the al fresco dining space on East Terrace ensure residents can enjoy Pan-Asian specialties from Thailand, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and India whilst admiring the latest exotic view.

The World Boutique and The World Showroom

These two luxury retail areas on Deck 5, offering a selection of designer fashions, gifts, jewelry, watches and exclusive The World logo products and apparel, have been completely remodeled and redecorated to provide a contemporary space for presenting merchandise. A changing area has been added to The World Boutique and the space opened up. It now benefits from more natural light and an inviting ambiance in which to display exclusive, sophisticated and destination-inspired products.
