The World Announces Adventurous 2015 Journey

February 2015

The World, the largest privately owned residential yacht on earth, has announced an exceptional 2015 journey, sailing to intriguing and often unreachable destinations. Setting sail from Singapore, Residents will enjoy an in-depth exploration of the exotic islands of Southeast Asia, before diving deep into the colorful reefs and sugar-soft sands of the Maldives and Seychelles. The Namibia & Mid-Atlantic Expedition will head out to sea from Cape Town, South Africa to visit the island jewels of the mid-Atlantic Ridge. Bathed in the midnight sun, a duo of thrilling expeditions to Antarctica and Greenland are linked by a rare transit through the Panama Canal. The private community-at-sea will also undertake a deep exploration of South America, Canada and India, sailing approximately 41,000 nautical miles, visiting 104 ports of call (with 15 new ports such as Colombo, Sri Lanka and Bazaruto Island, Mozambique) and 77 sea days.

From May to July, The World will journey through Europe’s eclectic ports; from chic Calvi and Portofino to historic Venice and Taormina. August will see the luxurious vessel call at Southampton with visits to Cornwall, Ireland and Scotland before sailing onwards to Iceland.

During the Ship’s 2015 journey, a dedicated team of experts will ensure that Residents are immersed in the culture, wildlife, and social and natural history of each region by designing unique experiences that bring each destination alive, every day is an amazing adventure on a journey of discovery. For those wishing to venture inland and explore interesting places unreachable by The World, overland journeys – like “The Maharajahs’ Express,” a seven-night adventure from Delhi to Mangalore, India, have been coordinated that range from two days to two weeks – with each a unique quest.

2015 Expeditions

The World’s 2015 journey includes three incredible expeditions that offer an in-depth look at a given region. A team of experts are brought on these special voyages that provide hands-on experience and knowledge.

Namibia & Mid-Atlantic Expedition

From late March to mid April this remarkable journey will cover about 5,000 nautical miles (5,750mi / 9,258km) from Cape Town to the Canary Islands; a full 60 degrees of latitude spanning the Tropic of Capricorn, the Equator and the Tropic of Cancer in the process. During the voyage the climate will transition from autumn in the southern hemisphere to spring in the northern hemisphere. The departure from Cape Town begins by cruising the coastal waters of South Africa to visit Namibia before heading towards the remote islands of the mid-Atlantic, including the former British Empire outposts of St. Helena and Ascension Island. From there, The World will head north to Cape Verde, a large archipelago off the coast of Senegal. The journey will continue up the coast of Africa to conclude in the Canary Islands. Along the way The World will visit several new destinations in the remote Atlantic islands.

Greenland Expedition

A forgotten archipelago nestled between Iceland and Norway; Residents will have the unique opportunity to visit the breath-taking Faroe Islands – a bird-watchers’ paradise – en-route to explore the eastern coast of Greenland. Known for their dramatic bird-cliffs, these rocky islands are awash with migrating birds at this time of year, with species including puffins, storm petrels, gannets and guillemots.

Home to the largest Inuit population in The World, Greenland offers a fascinating blend of raw nature, adventure and captivating culture. Abutting the Arctic Circle, the wild and inaccessible island, choked in ice for most of the year, has a powerful natural beauty explored on this two week expedition at the end of August. September in Greenland is beautiful with bright days giving way to starry nights, with Northern Lights dancing overhead. This is the perfect time of year to spot seals, Arctic fox, musk ox and even beluga whale, before the sea freezes.

Antarctica Expedition

Travelling down the West Coast of South America via the Panama Canal, Residents can immerse themselves in Latino spirit, from Peru and Ecuador through to Argentina and Chile, before rounding off the year in Antarctica. Saving the best for last, the final expedition of the year will see The World return to the Earth’s last frontier: The Antarctic Peninsula. A thrilling two-week adventure at the end of December, journey through icebergs, glacier caves and snow-capped mountains with zodiacs and kayaks used every day for expedition landings and island exploration.
