Exploring the Canals of Cochin

We spent a day cruising the Kerala backwaters on a houseboat. This is always a very relaxing, pleasant experience. Cochin is in the province of Kerala which is actually quite large. The backwaters, known as the Venice of the East, is an area of canals, rice paddies, coconut plantations and mangroves. There are many small villages in the backwaters where people are still living traditional lives. It’s very pleasant to cruise along the backwaters and see life along the waterways. The houseboats hold about 10 people and are a very comfortable way to spend the afternoon on a leisurely cruise with a nice Indian curry lunch served along the way.
