The World, announces remarkable 2018 Journey

October 2017

The World, the largest privately owned residential yacht on earth, has announced a remarkable 2018 journey that will take its Residents to 114 ports of call across the southern U.S., the Bahamas, Mexico, South America, the Mediterranean, western and northern Europe and more. The carefully crafted itinerary, which is determined by the Residents themselves, blends iconic larger cities around the world with smaller more remote and less traveled locations. The Ship will also call on 22 maiden ports of call in 2018 and sail approximately 40,000 nautical miles. Residents and their family and friends will experience the lush springtime of the Mediterranean before venturing to one of the world’s northernmost inhabited areas – the Svalbard Archipelago. This incredible journey will be filled with one-of-a-kind experiences designed to ‘bring the destination alive’ for The World’s 142 families as they travel the globe from the comfort of home on this unique and elegant private mega yacht.

After welcoming the first light of 2018 in the multicultural city of Miami, the Ship will set sail to explore the captivating coast and rhythm-filled rainforests of Brazil. The private community-at-sea will also undertake a deep exploration of the Mediterranean and Scandinavia, arriving in Namibia and South Africa in December to mark the end the year in Cape Town.

The World’s Expeditions and In-depth Explorations

The World’s 2018 itinerary offers in-depth journeys into three extraordinary regions. A team of experts is brought on these special voyages to provide hands-on experience and knowledge.

Svalbard Archipelago Expedition 2018

Sailing from Tromso, Norway at the beginning of August, The World will undertake an 11-day expedition through the Svalbard Archipelago, a supreme destination for viewing arctic wildlife. Situated 600 nautical miles from the North Pole, Svalbard provides Residents with wonderful occasions for encounters with both animals and polar landscapes. Every opportunity will be seized to explore the coast: from whale and walrus watching along the ice-free West Coast to seeking out arctic wildlife by Zodiac and expedition boat.

British Isles Exploration 2018

In early autumn, The World sails to the British Isles to experience the more remote regions – which many residing in Great Britain have not explored – from a different angle. Known for its remarkable combination of prehistoric architecture and wildlife, the Ship will travel to the isolated archipelago of St. Kilda and on to additional islands throughout the Hebrides such as the Glannan Isles, Shetland Islands and Orkney Islands to sample Scotland’s finest single malt whiskeys along the way and enjoy some of the world’s most renowned golfing venues.

Mid-Atlantic Exploration 2018

In December, The World traverses the Mid-Atlantic from the Canary Islands to South Africa via the remote Overseas British Territories of volcanic Ascension and St. Helena. These tiny but diverse sub-tropical islands and surrounding waters are home to endemic birds, fish and plants found nowhere else on the planet. The well-preserved ecosystem attracts a variety of marine life and the ocean teams with dolphins and whales.
