The World wins Best Ship 2018 in The World of Fine Wine’s ‘World’s Best Wine Lists 2018’

November 2018

The World, Residences at Sea has been awarded two prestigious accolades in the respected The World of Fine Wine magazine’s World’s Best Wine Lists 2018 for a fourth year in a row. The private residential ship received three stars, the highest possible and lead its category as Best Ship 2018.

A hugely prestigious award, The World joins the ranks of some of the finest restaurants on the globe including The Barn at Blackberry Farm which received Best Designed Wine List in the World 2018 along with several other awards, and other three-star winners such as 10 William St, Sydney and Aquavit, New York. This recognition by one of the world’s leading wine magazines is a testament to The World’s impressive wine collection. From Burgundy, Piedmont, Bordeaux, Tuscany and California, the wine list boasts a wide range of mature vintages, served by a dedicated and well-informed Beverage Team.

As a three-star winner, The World’s celebrated wine list is described as having; “an amazing commitment to diversity”, while the ship’s extensive by-the-glass program and selection of half bottles was particularly noted, as was its outstanding organization and presentation. The judges proclaimed Beverage Manager Marinela Ivanova the “vinous opus of the ship’s celebrated wine list”, praising her “leadership and obvious passion for her trade” and successful collaboration with the Ship’s Residents to curate an “incredible range of the world’s greatest wines.”

Commenting on the recognition Ms. Ivanova said, “It is a true honor for The World to be recognized alongside such esteemed establishments for the fourth year running. We continuously circumnavigate the globe calling on beautiful countries where wine is made which allows us to develop exceptional relationships with winemaker partners. We enjoy exploring the local wine scene by visiting traditionally renowned and up and coming quality-oriented producers. This is what makes our global wine list truly unique. On board we have more than 1,100 labels hand-picked from 19 countries, a wine cellar with a collection of 16,000 bottles, an extensive sake selection of 32 labels, a contemporary cocktail program and a top tier spirits selection of over 300 labels.”

The judges assessed over 4,500 wine lists with only 997 announced as winners, and even fewer awarded three stars. The esteemed panel of senior judges included some of the world’s greatest experts including Alder Yarrow, Elin McCoy, Ch’ng Poh Tiong, contributing editor Andrew Jefford, Andreas Larsson and food editor Francis Percival.
