The World, Residences at Sea is awarded three stars and wins Best Ship 2015 in The World of Fine Wine’s ‘World’s Best Wine Lists 2015’
June 2015
The World, Residences at Sea has been bestowed two prestigious accolades in The World of Fine Wine magazine’s World’s Best Wine Lists 2015. The private residential Ship received three stars, the highest possible and lead its category as Best Ship 2015.
A hugely prestigious award, The World joins the ranks of some of the finest restaurants on the globe including New York City’s Eleven Madison Park which received Best Overall Wine List, and other three-star winners like Sydney’s ARIA restaurant and Paris’ Le Bristol. Recognition by one of The World’s top wine magazines is a testament to the calibre of the Ship’s wine collection – rivalling the best in The World – and the dedication of The World’s Beverage Team.
“It gives me a remarkable feeling of satisfaction for a ‘job well done’ to receive this recognition from a publication I deeply respect,” says The World’s Beverage Manager Marinela Ivanova. “To be included in the top wine lists in The World is pretty incredible. Our goal is to rival the best restaurants on the planet. I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to our Residents. They deserve all the credit for supporting this one-of-a-kind project called The World. Without the resources they provide us we would never be able to unfold our ideas into practice.”
The judges assessed over 4,000 wine lists with only 300 in The World being awarded three stars. The esteemed panel of senior judges included some of The World’s greatest experts including Alder Yarrow, Ch’ng Poh Tiong and TWFW Editor Neil Beckett. According to Word Sommelier Champion Gerard Bassett, “These exciting new global awards are rapidly becoming as coveted as Michelin Stars”.
As a three-star winner, The World’s wine list is recognised as having “exceptional breadth and/or depth in the selection; a very high proportion of leading producers, large and small, old and new, established and emerging; a very good mix of vintages in terms of age, maturity, quality, and style; a wide range of wine styles and prices; an extensive by-the-glass program; an extensive selection of half-bottles and larger formats; outstanding organization and presentation; clear evidence of originality and personality; clear evidence of commitment over the long term, genuine passion, and real vision”.
