London, England – April 2024: For the ninth consecutive year, The World, Residences at Sea has been awarded ‘Best Ship Wine List’ in The World of Fine Wine magazine’s World’s Best Wine List Awards 2023. The recognition of three stars, the highest possible, by one of the world’s leading wine magazines is a testament to the ship’s expansive and unique wine collection procured from its global travels. As a category winner, The World joins the ranks of some of the finest restaurants on the globe.
Speaking on behalf of The World, the largest privately owned residential mega yacht on Earth, Beverage Manager Kelley Michael Schaefer commented, “To be awarded Best Ship Wine List for so many consecutive years alongside such notable establishments is a tremendous honor. Our Beverage Team, with its knowledgeable and experienced sommeliers, has the privilege and pleasure of working for our Residents who are a quite sophisticated group of wine connoisseurs. Due to the unique nature of their roles and continually sailing to top wine producing regions around the world, the Beverage Team onboard can enhance its knowledge of wines and pass that information along to the ship’s Residents. The World visits approximately 100 ports of call each year including top wine regions. In 2024, the exploration of the wine world continues with stops in Argentina, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. In addition to creating bespoke wine experiences for its Residents, the Beverage Team also works closely with The World’s chefs to create menus and wine pairings that reflect the diverse cultures and foods of the destinations visited during the ship’s global voyage.
The World’s master wine list includes approximately 15,000 bottles, and more than 1,200 handpicked selections from 20 countries.
