The World, Residences at Sea is awarded three stars and wins Best Ship 2016 in The World of Fine Wine’s ‘World’s Best Wine Lists 2016’

October 2016

The World, Residences at Sea has been bestowed two prestigious accolades in The World of Fine Wine magazine’s World’s Best Wine Lists 2016 for a second year in a row. The private residential Ship received three stars, the highest possible and lead its category as Best Ship 2016.

A hugely prestigious award within the wine industry, The World joins the ranks of some of the finest restaurants on the globe including Robuchon au Dôme at Grand Lisboa Hotel, Macau which received Best Overall Wine List, and other three-star winners such as Terroir Tribeca, New York and ARIA Restaurant, Sydney. Recognition by one of The World’s top wine magazines is a testament to the calibre of the Ship’s wine collection – rivalling the best in the world – and the dedication of The World’s Beverage Team.

“To be included in the top wine lists in for the second year running is a remarkable accolade,” says John McGirl, The World’s Senior Vice President of Operations. “The diversity of our wine list is a unique attribute. We are currently carrying close to 1,400 labels hand-selected from 19 countries and are fortunate that we are able to visit local vineyards and winemakers as our Ship continually circumnavigates the globe. Additionally, we are delighted that our talented, Beverage Manager, Marinela Ivanova has been chosen as one of only five world-class sommeliers interviewed by The World of Fine Wine magazine for their prestigious Sommelier Story.”

The judges assessed over 4,500 wine lists with only 322 in the world being awarded three stars. The esteemed panel of senior judges included some of the world’s greatest experts including Alder Yarrow, Elin McCoy, Ch’ng Poh Tiong, Andrew Jefford, Andreas Larsson, Francis Percival, and Editor Neil Beckett.

As a three-star winner, The World’s wine list is recognized as having “a globe-trotting list, that covers the entire winemaking world,” adding that “in making that vinous journey it makes sure it has “all of the best of the best,” big name producers from California, to Bordeaux, Burgundy, Tuscany, and Piedmont, with many mature vintages.”
