The World, Residences at Sea announces visit to South America in February & March 2018

Beginning 2018 in sundrenched Miami, Florida and the Caribbean, The World private residential Ship (aboardtheworld.com) will spend February and March exploring the east coast of South America, making both return trips and maiden visits to ports of call in Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. In Salvador, Brazil, the Ship’s Residents will partake in the city’s famed Carnival, enjoying the parade from camarotes, party boxes that line the event route. Then it’s off to Uruguay, the stunning beaches and captivating nightlife of Punta del Este and the old-school tango saloons and colonial architecture of Montevideo. Early March finds The World in Buenos Aires, Argentina, known for the world’s widest boulevard, busy plazas and landmarks like the Cementerio de la Recoleta, resting place of Evita Peron, the country’s iconic former first lady.

Many Overland Journeys are planned such as a trip to Mendoza Wine Country, designed with oenophiles in mind, and Iguassu Falls (UNESCO), where Residents will explore the magnificent falls from the dual perspectives of the Argentine and Brazilian sides. In Rio de Janeiro a treasure trove of World Heritage Sites await along with a guided tour of the city’s favelas and special early access to Mt. Corcovado to see the iconic landmark, the statue of Christ the Redeemer which has graced the top of Corcovado since 1931. A more intimate destination experience is planned at the Copacabana home of Manuela Sumares, where she will show Residents how to prepare a delicious, multi-course Bahian lunch.

The World’s 2018 visit marks the fifth time that the Ship has called on this part of Latin America.

Following its South American voyage, The World will cross the Atlantic to the lush islands of Cape Verde before experiencing springtime in the Mediterranean. Western and Northern Europe await in summer, including an expedition to the Svalbard Archipelago, brimming with wildlife and frozen tundra. The Ship’s incredible 2018 journey will be filled with one-of-a-kind experiences designed to ‘bring the destination alive’. Residents will sail approximately 40,000 nautical miles and call on 22 maiden ports of call, all from the comfort of their own homes on this unique and elegant private Ship.
