Port Cosai, San Andres Island: 7 Mar 2009 to 8 Mar 2009

Discovered by Columbus during his fourth voyage to the Americas, San Andrés is the largest of three islands in the archipelago of the same name. Geographically much closer to Nicaragua and Jamaica, the islands are nevertheless governed by Colombia. Although the majority of residents are Colombian, a very diverse culture is reflected in the music, food, customs and language.

Noted for pristine beaches, sheltered lagoons and excellent diving, the entire archipelago has been designated a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Venture to nearby Johnny Cay in the late afternoon if you’d like to feed the resident stingrays by hand!
