Odessa: 18 Jul 2008 to 21 Jul 2008

Odessa, "Pearl of the Black Sea," is a crossroads of culture, languages and trade. Founded and developed as a port at the behest of Catherine the Great in 1794, Odessa is a young city by European standards. You won't find any medieval alleyways or ancient Roman ruins, but the five-domed Uspensky Cathedral, the elegant Opera House and excellent Archaeological Museum certainly qualify as "must sees." History and film buffs will want to visit the Potemkin Steps, named after the battleship Potemkin, immortalized in Eisenstein's film of the same name.
