Yalta: 15 Jul 2008 to 17 Jul 2008
Yalta, the largest resort on the Crimea, has been host to presidents and czars, prime ministers and presidents. Elegant colonnaded mansions built by the pre-revolutionary Russian aristocracy now serve as hotels and spas. Spectacular scenery and a mild climate contribute to the appeal of this Black Sea playground. Yalta first became known to many outside Russia when Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill met at the nearby Livadia Palace in 1945 to discuss postwar Europe. You may also want to have a look at the charming castle known as the Swallow's Nest, a bizarre combination of Scottish castle and Arabic fantasy surrounded by an exotic park complex.
