Bodrum: 16 Jun 2008 to 19 Jun 2008

Bodrum, where the waters of the Aegean and Mediterranean meet, is a wonderful blend of the ancient and the modern. This ancient city known as Halikarnassos was, appropriately, the birthplace of Herodotus, the Father of History. The tomb built for King Mausolus was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, as well as the origin of the word mausoleum. The most prominent site in Bodrum today is undoubtedly the Castle of St. Peter, perched on a promontory facing the city. This magnificent medieval fortress was built by the Knights of St. John to provide shelter to Christian Crusaders en route to and from Jerusalem. Today, it is home to the fascinating Museum of Underwater Archaeology.
