Marmaris: 12 Jun 2008 to 14 Jun 2008

Lord Nelson found the harbour at Marmaris a most accommodating stopover for his fleet in 1796, as do thousands of yachtsmen and Blue Voyage participants today. A modern yacht harbour provides all the necessary facilities, while the appealing islands and historic ports of the Aegean and Mediterranean provide the perfect itinerary. The castle commissioned by no less than Süleyman the Magnificent still stands watch over the city, although it now houses a museum.

Those seeking a somewhat more tranquil environment may enjoy visits to Içmeler, Akyaka and Gökova. To the south, the villages of Turunç and Selimiye remain largely unspoiled, offering a pleasing choice of beaches, restaurants and small shops offering honey, handicrafts and excellent olive oil. The entire region surrounding Marmaris is notable for the large number of “Blue Flag” beaches and marinas, which must meet strict environmental and water quality standards in order to fly the coveted banner.
