Durban: 10 Feb 2008 to 12 Feb 2008

Durban is the modern, yet historic city where the Zulu Kingdom has come together with Asians, Africans and other Europeans to form a unique environment.

One of the hardest things might be deciding what to do first. Perhaps begin with a stroll along Durban’s beachfront, the Golden Mile, often referred to as South Africa’s Miami Beach. Then marvel at nearby Juma Musjin Mosque, the largest mosque in the Southern Hemisphere, taking up almost a city block. Head to Victoria Street Market, better known as the Indian Market, to savour some of Durban’s oriental flavour.

This intriguing city gracefully combines extreme opposites. Durban Metro comes alive after dark with clubs, pubs, lounges, taverns, life music and local theatre, while the Sugar Coast is a combination of luxurious beach living, protected foliage with bird wildlife and important battlefields of the area’s historic past.

For a look at Zulu tribal life, visit Eshowe in Shakaland or enjoy Zulu dances at a village in the Valley of 1000 Hills.
