São Tomé: 14 Jan 2008 to 15 Jan 2008
São Tomé, capital of the island state of São Tomé and Príncipe, comprises two main islands (Saõ Tomé and Príncipe) and the islets of Cabras, Gago Coutinho, Pedras Tinhosas and Ilheu dos Rolas, which is crossed by the Equator line. Located approximately 200 km (120 mi) off Gabon’s west coast in the Gulf of Guinea, both islands are part of an extinct volcanic mountain range.
The tropical jungles with wondrous exotic birds, trees and flowers, remote golden beaches and volcanic mountains in the rainforest offer breathtaking scenery that are rarely found anywhere else. The town of São Tomé’s most obvious charm lies in its picturesque colonial Portuguese architecture and lovingly maintained parks.
