Explore the world’s smallest shared land mass—the island of Sint-Maarten/Saint Martin; just 96 sq km/37 sq miles, is governed by France and the Netherlands Antilles. Your introductory drive includes highlights on each side of the island.
Drive from Marigot, capital of the larger French side, through the countryside to Grand Case. Deemed by some the “gourmet capital of the Caribbean,” the village boasts some 30 restaurants. Pause to enjoy the panoramic views of Orient Bay, Tintamarre Island and St. Barths at Paradise View observation point, and then drive on past the white sands of Orient Beach.
The French meet the Dutch at Belleplain as you cross the border and continue your drive through the scenic countryside. Pause at Mount William for a look at Philipsburg Harbor and Great Bay, and then drive on to the Dutch capital, Philipsburg. Take advantage of about 30 minutes of free time to do some shopping along Front Street or take a stroll along the beachfront boardwalk.
Continue your introductory drive past the salt ponds, once the main source of revenue for the island, to the top of Cole Bay Hill. Assuming clear weather, you should be able to see the neighbouring islands of St. Kitts, Nevis, Statia and tiny Saba. Drive on to Simpson Bay, home port to many mega-yachts, before crossing back over to the French side. At the conclusion of your drive, you may opt to stay in Marigot for independent exploration or return to the tender landing for the ride back to The World.
