CORSICAN ARTISANS:
Code: AJA-01
Duration: 3-4 hours - See NOTE below
Date: 10 Oct 2008
Time: Afternoon
Sample some of Corsica’s bountiful natural products, from wine to honey-sweetened treats to aromatic essential oils on today’s visit to several Corsican artisans.
Begin with a pleasant 30-minute drive into the Corsican countryside to a family-owned nougat factory. Watch the process involved in creating this delicious confection made from honey, egg whites and almonds. Sample some of the results, which may include the addition of chocolate, liqueurs and chestnut puree.
Next, drive another half an hour or so to a distillery where local herbs and flowers are vaporized into essential oils, which in turn are used in perfumes and other products. Corsica’s bounty of aromatic plants and trees provides abundant raw material for the production of scented oils, perfumes and medicinal oils. (The distillery is reached by climbing a rather steep incline of approx. 70 metres/77 yards.)
Your final stop is at one of Corsica’s small vineyards for an introductory tour and wine tasting.
NOTE: Please check with onboard Tour Specialists; exact departure date and time depends upon timing of the Corsica Rally. Wear comfortable walking shoes and a jacket; it may be cold and windy, especially at the higher elevations involved (up to 800 m/2624 ft).
