The World

FLIGHTSEEING:

Code: MLE-02

Duration: 2.5 HOURS

Date: 26 Apr 2008

Time: Afternoon

Enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the palm-fringed atolls and aquamarine inlets of the Maldives during a half-hour seaplane flight.

Transfer by boat about 30 minutes from Malé to the nearby island of Hulule, where a van will transfer you to the seaplane terminal. After a safety briefing, board a Twin Otter DHC-100 seaplane (or similar) floating beside a platform in the airport lagoon. Fly above many of the island nation’s 1200 low-lying tropical atolls scattered about the Indian Ocean. Only about 200 of the islands are permanently occupied, many of them developed in the recent past for tourism. Sparkling white sand encircles each coral islet, some dotted with beachside bungalows, others undisturbed by permanent structures.

Spend about half an hour in the air before splashing back down in the lagoon where your flight began. Retrace your route back to Malé and The World.
