Exploring Ketchikan, Alaska

Cruising the Canadian Fjords

We spent two days cruising through the Canadian fjords on the west edge of British Columbia as we made our way up to Alaska. We passed hundreds of miles of pristine waterfront, but we didn’t pass much civilization, just the small village of Bella Bella and a few fishing lodges.

We arrived in the small Alaskan town of Ketchikan.

The Mooning Eagle sculpture.

In the afternoon, we joined a tour that took us out to some privately owned land bordering the Tongass National Forest.  We had some guides that took us along a boardwalk that led through a rainforest and over to a creek surrounded by wetland.

Rainforest eagle.

We saw bear tracks.

… And then a bear crossing the river.

And resting in the grass.

A second bear followed a few minutes later.

Looking for salmon.

Looking for fish.

Catching the fish.

Eating the fish.

And fighting over them.
